The Julep Town Collective (or JTC for short) is an online community centering the written work of Black folks of marginalized genders. This includes cis women, trans women, trans men, non-binary folks, folks questioning their gender and those who are otherwise underrepresented.

Meet the Moderator

My name is Trey Washington.

I am the creator and moderator of the Julep Town Collective.

I started this book club to explore the literary work of Black writers of marginalized genders.

Although all are welcome, I created this space for cis-gendered heterosexual Black men to come together and unlearn patriarchal violence, misogynoir and queerphobia.

In 2019, I established the JTC’s mission and values. My hope has always been that, through reading, cis-hetero Black men can interrogate and shed our harmful values, beliefs and behaviors in favor of the healthy behaviors and practices that our community expects and needs from us.
